Positive Plaza Alternatives
The Blue Water Bridge Plaza expansion is currently in the later planning stages. The possible designs are being finalized by MDOT and will soon be presented for public comment.

We have a window of perhaps a year to influence decisions that will impact this area for generations to come.

We encourage the Port Huron City Council and Administration to stop their foolish obstructionism and deal with the reality that faces them. Since the Plaza will almost certainly be expanded within the City, stop fussing about a few acres of older neighborhood, and certainly stop trying to continue the unacceptable status quo. Start working with MDOT to craft a Plaza design that works like a net, not a pipe. This time, let's get a Plaza that helps route traffic into Port Huron.

We encourage Port Huron citizens to tell their Council that you want a Plaza that works for the City. Make the Plaza a topic in the upcoming City Council elections. Ask candidates how they plan to take advantage of this situation to work with MDOT.

A properly redesigned Plaza could help with the economic diversification of the area. If the Plaza acted as a net to draw traffic off the Bridge rather than just piping it down the highway, it could open up several alternatives to those willing to take advantage of them.

We are not suggesting that the Plaza by itself could make these happen, but if properly designed, it could help diversification efforts by innovative local parties. In the menu on the left we consider a few thoughts that occur to us; others may be able to think of more:
