Time to actDue to ignorance and misinformation, there is a widespread perception that the greater population of the area opposes the Plaza Expansion project. Fortunately, there is a brief window of time to turn that perception around - something all area residents should take advantage of.That's right: all area residents. Even if the Plaza is expanded within the Port Huron City limits, the impact of the Plaza is regional. All Blue Water area residents have a right - and a responsibility - to speak out on this issue. The links and comments available from this page should help you contact the proper parties. Not simply "pro-Plaza"The issue is more involved than being "pro" or "anti" the Plaza expansion. The design of an expanded Plaza and Corridor must be done in intelligent cooperation with MDOT as part of an overall strategy to benefit the area. An expanded Plaza alone will yield little benefit. The Plaza and Corridor projects must go hand-in-glove with a broader vision for rebuilding the economy and retooling the outlook of the area.Building that vision is up to us. It is what we must ask of our civic leaders, our businesses, our community institutions, but mostly of ourselves. What can you do?One immediate thing is to send links to this site to all your area contacts. Counteract the impression that we in the area are universally opposed to the Plaza expansion. Give others a chance to consider the arguments and make up their own minds, rather than simply parroting the anti-Plaza bias of the local media and leadership. The menu at left provide some links with suggestions for Port Huron and Blue Water area residents, as well as contact information for local officials. Now is the time for action. If we sit around wondering how all this will turn out, then a vocal and negative minority will force an undesirable result that we and our children will be stuck with for decades. We will miss an opportunity to build for our future, and will almost certainly see the Blue Water Area fade and dwindle as our children and workers seek their futures elsewhere. |
