The reconstruction of the Blue Water Bridge Plaza is one of the biggest questions facing the Blue Water Area in the last half of this decade. The design and placement of this half-billion dollar project will affect the region for generations. Until now, most of the discussion about the project has been shrill, negative, short-sighted, and narrow-minded. Treatment of the issue has been dominated by slogans and sound bites as people have lined up to condemn the project as a mistake, a disaster, and something to be fiercely opposed. What has been missing has been a serious discussion that considers both the challenges and opportunities presented by the Plaza project. We're Positive Plaza Alternatives, a coalition of Blue Water Area residents. We think the issues at stake are far too important to be dealt with so casually. We encourage all area residents to educate themselves on all aspects of the project. Come to your own opinion, but base it on something more than superficial analyses and noisy propaganda. We hope this website provides information, provokes thought, and encourages courteous discussion. We all need to get beyond "pro-Plaza" and "anti-Plaza" stands. There is too much at stake for such simplistic thinking. The decisions we make today will affect this area for generations. We need to be responsible enough to consider them seriously. |
